New research conducted by scientists at Tel Aviv University reveals that a free electron passing through a laser beam causes a tiny change in it, as if it had passed through a material, but without destroying the electron's quantum state. According to the researchers, the discovery could enable counting electrons in the future without harming them, improve the sensitivity of electron microscopes, and uncover the structure of materials sensitive for next-generation electronics and biomedicine.
About 300 meters of the lower water tunnel to Jerusalem, which is about 21 km long, were uncovered in an Israel Antiquities Authority excavation south of Kibbutz Ramat Rachel. The tunnel, whose construction is attributed to the Hasmonean era, conveyed water up to the Ottoman period.
