After thirty years of stagnation: a new medical solution for lung cancer
Small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive disease characterized by a rapid progression rate and a tendency for early spread. The disease mainly affects smokers and accounts for about 15% of lung cancer cases. For decades, treatment options were limited and improvements in treatment outcomes were modest. In recent years, significant developments have occurred in the field, including innovative therapies that enlist the immune system against the tumor. “Some patients receive the treatment for more than two years and the tumor disappears completely on imaging,” says Prof. Nir Feld, director of the Lamseli Oncology Center at Shaare Zedek Hospital and chairman of the Lung Cancer Association of Israel.
